![]() #141 | Is this a stamp or just an
air mail label?
Posted by Stefano on 17/09/98
#141 - I believe this is a poster stamp honoring French aviator
Georges Guynemer. It was later overprinted "DU BUC" as a
semi-official airmail stamp.
This stamp is listed as an aviation poster stamp in Naudet's "Les Vignettes
Francaises D'Aerostation et D'aviation des origines à 1940" and also as an
aviation label or etiquette in Mair's catalog of air mail labels. |
![]() #142 | I know nothing about this stamp.
Is it a postage stamp? What is the meaning of "L.P.O."?
Posted by Stefano on 17/09/98
L.P.O stands for Local Post Office
#142 - One of the Chinese Treaty Port local stamps. This one was
issued by Chungking (LPO = Local Post Office) in 1894, one of a set
of five values (2, 4, 8, 16, 24 candarins) - Lane and Maguire #CH6. |
![]() #143 | The look
of this stamp is definitely hungarian, but I haven't been able to find it
in my catalogues. Any hint?
Posted by Stefano on 17/09/98
Korona was also used in Southern Poland (1918 - which is pretty close to 1922).
Alternate possibility.
#143 - This is a hungarian local stamp. It also contains the arms of the
Great Hungary. This stamp wasn’t postally used.
This is not a local, but a national revenue from Hungary (documentary tax).
While dated 1922 I think it is the 1923 issue. It is listed in Barefoot's cat
of Hungarian revenues. |
![]() #144 | What is this? A stamp
issued by a brasilian private mail carrier?
Posted by Stefano on 17/09/98
Pernambuco is a state in Brazil, Brinde means "gift",
"Recife" means "reef", doesn't it look like a trading stamp?
About the stamp #144 Recife is the capital of Pernambuco. |
![]() #145 | I don't think
that this one is a stamp. What does "U.G.T." mean? Union Générale du Travail?
Posted by Stefano on 17/09/98
#145 - Close: Union General de Trabajadores. This is a political label
issued by the Republican side of the Spanish Civil War in 1937;
non-postal. |
![]() #146 | In which german
town was this "Hansa Privatstadtbrief Befoerderung" based?
Posted by Stefano on 17/09/98
#146 - Breslau (1894) - Michel #9. |
![]() #147 | Once I read that
a set of private "mourning" labels was issued in Germany soon after the end of WWI
to mourn the lost of all the german colonies. Could this one belong to that set?
I also have a second one with Deutsch Neu-Guinea on.
Posted by Stefano on 17/09/98
Correct! Have seen the series once. All the same style and picture - but with
different name of ancient german colonies. But don't know the value...
#147 - These were issued between 1920-1922 (estimated by Alnis), and
are part of two sets of similar mourning stamps (non-postal). One set
shows lost territories (9), and the other lost colonies (10). |
![]() #148 | What about this
polish stamp? No mention of it is made by my Yvert catalogue. Could anybody
give me more information about it?
Posted by Stefano on 17/09/98
Intriguing. Looks so legit, especially with CDS (circular date stamp). FEN marks it as 1918 to
1922. Not in Scott either.
#148 - A fantasy stamp of Poland, 1918, one of a set of 5 listed by
Chapier. |
![]() #149 | Although this
bolivian thing doesn't have any correos writing on, yet it neither says to
be of a fiscal nature. What is it then?
Posted by Stefano on 17/09/98
This stamp is from Beni, a province in Bolivia, look in Michel ÜberseeKatalog.
Despite the lack of an inscription that indicates that it is a revenue,
this item is noted as being a revenue stamp in both Scott and Gibbons. It
was overprinted for postal duty in 1966 (Scott 488, Gibbons 803).
#149 - This stamp is listed in Minkus under Revenue Stamps Used for
Postage, and is part of a 1944 set of five commemorating the 100th
anniversary of the Department of Beni. |
![]() #150 | And what about
this japanese block? It has no gum on the back. You may click on it to see it
in more detail (27 Kb).

#150 - This is a non-postal "souvenir card", one of 10 different
issued by Japan between 1961 and 1963. There are more details in the
JSDA catalog (if you can read Japanese). |
