![]() #121 | This Canton de Vaud stamp (Swiss Wallis canton) is too recent to be one of the original Vaud stamps. Does anyone know if it is an official local stamp? In what catalogue might it be listed?
Posted by Casper on 03/07/98
No. 121 is an 1890 (cantonal) revenue stamp - Forbin 'Droits Fiscaux'
no. 17 (low value in set of 14). |
![]() #122 | This Azerbaidjan stamp looks very much like the other Azerbaidjan stamps in my Yvert & Tellier catalogue, but this one is not among them. In what catalogue can I find it?
Posted by Casper on 03/07/98
No. 122 is the high value of a set of 6 bogus stamps issued in Italy
in 1923. Listed in "Phantom Stamps" by L.N. and M. Williams in Billig
vol. 30.
It seems that these stamps were printed in Udine (Italy) in the early 20s
along with other bogus Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia issues. |
![]() #123 | Can anyone tell me the story behind this stamp?
Posted by Casper on 03/07/98
Attached are two scans. One of "stamps" (zarki2.jpg - 45 Kb) of the same series, with and without
overprints, and secondly the only reference (zarki.jpg - 58 Kb) I have to them. This is page
69 from "Poland Locals" by A. Hall (European Philately 6).
They are listed under Zarki. If you can’t make out the writing it says
"1917 Labels issued "for the poor" – used for sealing the flaps of envelopes,
no postal status." Beneath the picture of the single stamp reads "The above
stamp was overprinted 7mk O.K.O.P. and used as a provisional revenue stamp.
Provenance uncertain". I also have a number of the unoverprinted stamps
with purple cancels (favor cancels?). |
![]() #124 | Another Polish looking stamp. Any info would be much appreciated.
Posted by Casper on 03/07/98
No. 124 is a Polish fund raising label (circa 1920). The inscription
roughly translates to "National Treasury / To Purchase Gold and Silver".
#124 This is a Poland fiscal surtax stamp. The use of these stamps on the fiscal acts was obligatory.
For the purchase of gold and silver to improve the national economy. Issued in 1920. About 30 different stamps/values.
Listed in the cataloge of the adhesive revenue stamps of Poland by John A. Norton and Tadeusz Gryzewski, partally revised
by Martin Erler. |
![]() #125 | Another stamp from the same lot. Any clues? The text reads:
"Poczta miejska w Zarkach".
Posted by Casper on 03/07/98
#125, I'm not sure so wait for someone else's opinion, but I think it was from an
unissued WW1 german occupation of Poland set and Zarkach is the town.
#125 Polish local part of a set listed in Michel but this one is
likely to be a fake as 99%+ are.
No. 125 - the name of the town is Zarki (dot over Z). Almost certainly
a forgery. |
![]() #126 | This stamp has probably something to do with the army. Does anyone know
where it is listed?
Posted by Casper on 03/07/98
No. 126 is a charity label to raise funds for the Polish Legions in WWI.
This is the high value of a set of 4 (several shades for each value).
There is also a series denominated in groszy.
I have a set of four of these. I believe they were issued by the Polish
Legion in WWI. No more info I'm afraid.
#126 These stamps are listed in Alan Jacksons catalogue "For God Kaiser & Fatherland" as charity labels.
They exist perforated and non perforated. |
![]() #127 | More from the same. Not found in Yvert. Also Polish?
Posted by Casper on 03/07/98
I found this one in Michel. Poland local issues for Przedborz, number 17,
issued 27 July, 1918.
No. 127 is a 1918 Polish local from Przedborz, listed in Michel and
various other catalogs. Known in perf 10, perf 11.5 and imperf.
Stamp mentioned by J. Barefoot on pg 28 of his book, "Poland 1918 Locals" as "posthumous issue #3". |
![]() #128 | Not a very interesting item, but out of curiosity: from what country is this cinderella?
Posted by Casper on 03/07/98
New Zealand, but I don't know the date.
Stamp #128 is from Nelson, New Zealand. Nelson is a mid size
city located at the top of the South Island. |
![]() #129 | Here is something else I have been wondering about for a while.
It is a stamp?
Posted by Casper on 03/07/98
#129 Sao Paulo State revenue - must be listed in Barata revenue catalog. |
![]() #130 | Although many similar stamps were issued in Japan, this early stamp does not seem
to be among them. I am rather curious about it (it might even be worth something....).
Posted by Casper on 03/07/98
No. 130 is an 1873 revenue, listed in Forbin (Effets de Commerce et
Quittances no. 1). |
