Italy... A fascist tax stamp, dues stamp? Propoganda label? 5
centisimi... "Comitato Romano/per la organizzazione/civile in caso/di
mobilitazione". What was this for? Who issued them and when?
Posted by Paul S. Luchter on 04 November 99 |
ANSWERS:
The inscription on C 11 translates to something like "Roman committee
for the civil organization in case of mobilization". The label or
stamp might have been intended to support that committe, but I have
no idea when it was issued.
The translation given above is correct. I have no idea either of when it
was issued. | |

Belgium? "CVV" and at top "Ministerie van verkeer en
waterstaat" I think Belgium..A workers dues label? What is this? 1950's?
Any data?
Posted by Paul S. Luchter on 04 November 99 |
ANSWERS:
This looks to me like a revenue for the Netherlands because there is a
lion in the centre, the value is in cents and The Netherlands have a
minestry for verkeer en waterstaat (as far as I know Belgium hasn't got any).
C 12 seems to be a fiscal stamp used to indicate the receipt of
a fee of 50 cents paid to the Ministry of
Traffic and Waterways (Waterstrat is a Dutch word for a navigable
river or canal).
This revenue was issued by the Department of transportation and waterways. This Department
issued revenues in this general format since 1932. The Department,
"Ministerie" in Dutch, is a governmental department resorting under a
Minister (in US parlance a Secretary). The Department changed names frequently,
Department of Economic Issues, Dept. of Inland Waterways, Dept. of
Waterways, Emergency issues were also issued, Dept. of Traffic and Energy, etc. All
these revenues had the same sort of design, a circle in the middle
picturing a Dutch lion. Circular wording (usually the name of the Department) around
the circle or else straight line above the lion. Last known use some time
in 1970 or 80. The letters C V V stand for: Commissie Vervoers Vergunningen - translated: Commission
for transportation licences.

Austria? Germany? Switzerland? hard to see, a red on black
express label in Blackletter typeface-"Gilbote expres" (or Filbote or Eilbote,
Cilbote, it is hard for me to always read Blackletter) What country used
this? A Post office? When?
Posted by Paul S. Luchter on 04 November 99 |
ANSWERS:
German special delivery sticker.
C 13 is an express mail label - the text means "Eilbote - Expres",
it is probably from Germany. Such labels are attached to urgent
letters which are to be delivered as quick as possible. Usually,
a special deliverer is despatched to take such items to the recipient.
An extra fee has to be pre-paid with stamps for this service.

"Cachet de Garantie" - is this some sort of French wine tax stamp? It is
very pretty, no?
Posted by Paul S. Luchter on 16 November 99 |
ANSWERS:
The label is exactly what it purports to be. A proof that the commodity was from an original manufacturer and genuine goods,
not a spurious cheaper commodity. Hence "Cachet (stamp) de Garantie". It's actually, I believe, a bottle label. Period about
1900. You found these on proprietary medicines. Country: France.

"1928" - Jugoslavia stamp of some sort-what is it?
Posted by Paul S. Luchter on 16 November 99 |
ANSWERS:
C17 - Definitely a Yugoslavian stamp. "Jadranska Straza" means: "Adriatic
Watch". I would assume it refers to a Coast Guard unit of some sort, perhaps on
the 10th anniversary of the founding of the country in 1918. Price is 0.50
Dinars. | |

"Nemzeti Repulöalap" - This seems to be Hungarian, does anyone know
anything about this tiny stamp?
Posted by Paul S. Luchter on 16 November 99 |
ANSWERS:
I am not sure, but if it is about 1/4 the size of a regular stamp it is
probably from a children's toy post office.

"Kriegsbilder"-"Verschlussmarke???" at bottom-what is this German
stamp?
Posted by Paul S. Luchter on 16 November 99 |
ANSWERS:
C20 - "Kriegsbilder" means "war pictures". "Verschlussmarke" means "sealing
stamp". I would guess that this was a German collection of motifs from the
battlefields of WWI -- perhaps postcards. They might have been sold as a means
of generating funds for some worthy cause.
